When an AI Makes You the CEO of a Dying Empire
Indie developer Glazial has officially confirmed that Holonoptic will launch on PC via Steam on July 16, 2026. Combining economic management, party-based RPG mechanics, and narrative-driven decision-making, the game places players in charge of a failing Swiss megacorporation controlled by an artificial intelligence. A free demo is already available and has received positive early feedback from players.
An Unusual Corporate Survival Story
Rather than casting players as a traditional hero, Holonoptic begins with an unexpected promotion: you become CEO after your predecessor mysteriously disappears and the rest of the company’s leadership is dismissed.
The corporation’s artificial intelligence, Geist, selected you as its human representative and now oversees every aspect of the company. Throughout the game, players must navigate political factions, corporate conspiracies, and ethical dilemmas while deciding whose interests they ultimately serve.
Managing a Company—and Your Own Mind
While Holonoptic features the depth of a business simulation, it also places significant emphasis on psychological role-playing.
Players are responsible for expanding a struggling Swiss conglomerate by:
- Building and upgrading facilities
- Managing supply chains
- Hiring or dismissing employees
- Trading with more than 50 companies
- Negotiating acquisitions or hostile takeovers
Choices Shape the Entire Story
Instead of relying on a simple morality system, Holonoptic tracks player decisions across eight competing ideological movements, ranging from free-market capitalism to collectivist philosophies and underground economic networks.
Supporting one ideology gradually unlocks exclusive missions, storylines, and relationships while closing others, resulting in more than 10 different endings.
This branching structure aims to encourage multiple playthroughs, with both business strategy and narrative choices influencing the final outcome.
A Feature-Rich Indie Project
Holonoptic has been developed over six years by solo developer Kevin Bloch under the Glazial studio banner.
According to the studio, players can expect:
- More than 10 unique endings
- 16 recruitable companions
- Over 3,000 dialogue lines (more than 1,500 fully voiced)
- 9 character classes
- 6 core skills
- More than 70 feats
- 50+ companies to trade with or acquire
- Over 120 items and upgrades
The game blends management systems with RPG progression, allowing different approaches to negotiations, infiltration, diplomacy, and corporate expansion.
Why Holonoptic Stands Out
Economic simulators often focus exclusively on optimization, while narrative RPGs emphasize character development. Holonoptic attempts to merge both genres by making corporate decisions inseparable from the protagonist’s mental state and ideological alignment.
Its Alpine cyberpunk setting, AI-driven leadership, and psychological systems offer a distinctive take on management games that goes beyond spreadsheets and resource balancing.
A Different Vision of Corporate Survival
With its mix of corporate simulation, psychological role-playing, and branching narrative design, Holonoptic is shaping up to be one of this summer’s more original indie releases. Whether it succeeds will depend on how well its management mechanics and storytelling complement each other, but its premise already sets it apart from more conventional strategy games.
